Cuitláhuac Museum
One of the main objectives of this museum is to encourage the participation of the inhabitants of Tláhuac, in order to preserve, rescue and disseminate their cultural traditions. In addition, it seeks to protect local natural resources, dramatically affected by the speed of urbanisation in Mexico City. Traditions, natural resources and archaeological remains are integral parts of the ancestral legacy of the community. The Galindo family decided to offer part of their home to be adapted as a museum, where to exhibit various objects, and to constitute a social centre for the organization of workshops and other programmes. The activities of the museum have made it popular among the people of Tláhuac and constitute a most effective form of social cohesion. Members of the community participating in these activities point out that it is a way to promote the appropriation of their traditions as part of cultural heritage.
