With the project "Gemeinsame Vergangenheit  - gemeinsame Zukunft“ (Shared Past  - Shared Future) the Museum of Islamic Art of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation aims to develop innovative forms of access to the topics of transculturality, diversity and migration in conjunction with 'multiplicators' of the extra-curricular youth employment. The basic assumption is that cultures have not developed or evolved interdependently of one another, and the past has been shaped by cultural interactions and exchanges. On the basis of this premise, the museum taps into its collection of artefacts and the knowledge it has accumulated.

The project also examines what a common future might look like against this backdrop, what it signifies, and what it represents. The participants involved are supported in the difficult process of finding their identities, helping them cultivate open-minded attitudes. Beyond that, they can strengthen others in dealing with the challenges of immigration in society. In addition, the museum expands its role as a civil society actor and this pilot project may serve as a role model for similar establishments. The expected results at the end of the project are insights about the needs of the main target audience as well as exemplary ideas of how the museum with its knowledge and art-historical collection can better respond to those needs. The final results wil feature in the permanent collection of the Museum in order to ensure the sustainability of the project
