Terra Incognita – Abandoned Mining District of Lauterbach

The Terra Incognita project on Lauterbach Minig District was established to disseminate knowledge about this location and to present it to the public. The aim was to support and preserve the local knowledge and identity of the former mining district, promoting the site in order to enhance its attractiveness for tourists. The project presented an open-air exhibition and mobile application filled with texts and visual documents of the area. The Lauterbach mining district as well as Lauterbach town were abandoned after the expulsion of the Germans in 1946-1948. Before, since medieval times, it was one of the main and most vivid mining districts near the Ore Mountains range (Erzgebirge).
